Webinar Sponsored by Phytobiomes Alliance
Managing pest outbreaks through participatory iterative ecological forecasting
Chris Jones
January 26, 2022
10:00 - 11:00 AM CST

Iterative ecological forecasting provides a way for researchers to continually challenge models and hypotheses as new data and discoveries are made. Combing iterative ecological forecasts with interactive analytics and participatory modeling allows decision-makers and researchers to learn together more quickly to manage emerging pests and pathogens.

My team's research focuses on this intersection between interactive interfaces, advanced spatio-temporal forecasts, and participatory modeling with decision-makers to better understand how we can build informative forecasts before much data is known about a new pest outbreak and continually improve these models and forecasts as new information is discovered. In this webinar, I will focus on two case studies: sudden oak death and spotted lanternfly.

Workshop Sponsored by AIAFS
AI for Agriculture and Food Systems workshop at the 2022 AAAI conference
Multiple Speakers
February 28, 2022

We are pleased to invite you and your team/students to the AI for Agriculture and Food Systems workshop at the 2022 AAAI conference. The workshop will be held virtually February 28 (Monday) or March 1, 2022 (Tuesday). The final schedule will be available in November. Our workshop aims to bring together researchers from core AI/ML, robotics, sensing, cyber-physical systems, agriculture engineering, plant sciences, genetics, and bioinformatics communities to facilitate the increasingly synergistic intersection of AI/ML with agriculture and food systems. Outcomes include outlining the main research challenges in this area, potential future directions, and cross-pollination between AI researchers and domain experts in agriculture and food systems.

Important Dates

  • November 12: Submissions due
  • December 3: Notification of acceptance
  • December 17: Early registration deadline
  • February 28 or March 1: AIAFS Workshop Program

Annual WCGALP Conference
World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production
Multiple Speakers
July 3-8, 2022

The World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production (WCGALP), to be held in July 2022 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands includes a technical session entitled Molecular genetics: gene editing focused on sharing methods and results with peers working on genome editing in livestock and other animals.

There is also a session on gene editing entitled, Gene editing: ethics, economics, experiences that is focused more on the challenges and the contribution of gene editing to animal breeding, rather than the technical details of the research and applied methodology.

Submission of the 4-page proceedings paper opened on September 1, 2021, and will close January 12, 2022.

WCGALP has a number of scholarships available for PhD-students who have limited finance available for participation in the conference. These scholarships will cover the registration fee and an additional €500 will be made available in case of physical (and not on-line) participation. The fee may include an excursion and the Wednesday party to stimulate networking.

To be eligible for a scholarship a paper should be submitted through the link for submitting abstracts on the WCGALP website before the deadline of 12 January 2022. Also a mail should be sent to with a motivation why opting for the scholarship, the abstract number, and stating whether participation will be physical or on-line. The mail should be accompanied by a letter of the supervisor stating the projected graduation date (should be after 12 January 2022) and confirming supervisorship. See more details here

In order to bring WCGALP 2022 to an even wider audience, the conference is going hybrid in 2022! This means that both parallel and plenary sessions will be streaming live from Rotterdam. Poster sessions will also be digital and details on its exact format are in development! Early bird registration rates apply through March 1, 2022.
