This workshop will help agricultural genome to phenome researchers create more expansive and inclusive teams and ensure that we leverage the knowledge and expertise of marginalized and underrepresented groups. Participants will learn how to directly engage with other researchers in networks to create more inclusive and dynamic teams, diving into how to target communication with model stakeholders, employ empathy maps for understanding, and create journey maps of collective experience. Workshop attendees will get a chance to meet other members of the international network, discuss current data sharing and team building practices.


Worshop Speakers and Presentations

Dr. Cassandra Dorius

Dr. Cassandra Dorius, Associate Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Iowa State University, is Director of the Public Science Collaborative. Her research focuses on translating scholarship into practice through a broad range of state and national collaborations centered on data quality, community outreach, and evidence-based policy-making.


Dr. Shawn Dorius

Dr. Shawn Dorius is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Demography in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, where he conducts research on attitudes, values, and beliefs, the translation of science into action, and research methods. He has investigated attitudes about bioengineering, the application of policy to plant genetic data, and rural wellbeing.


Rachael Voas

Rachael Voas is Manager of Training & Community Engagement for the Public Science Collaborative (PSC) at Iowa State University. She consults nationally on Science of Team Science, mentoring, and leadership. Voas focuses on PSC interdisciplinary research development and outreach efforts that provide science consulting for the public good.
