The Agricultural Genome to Phenome Initiative (AG2PI) is offering this conference to introduce its seed grant mechanism and provide an opportunity for interested researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities that might be addressed with an AG2PI seed grant award.
The event will begin with an overview of AG2PI and the seed grant mechanism. This will be followed by two brief talks detailing examples of how a seed grant was used by a research community to create something larger in scope and reach. Then, we will hear two short talks on USDA seed grant mechanisms. Finally, attendees will have the opportunity to discuss with those outside of their regular scientific channels the opportunities they see available within one of the five themes laid out in the seed grant RFP. Each theme will be represented in a moderated breakout room and attendees will be able to freely move between rooms as well as communicate with each other via a dedicated Slack channel. There will be two teaming sessions so that attendees can better explore more than one funding theme before the close of the conference. A final, short wrap-up session will be used to share feedback on specific or additional topics that arose during the teaming events.
Agenda
Teaming Session Format
Five (5) rooms on each of the following topics:
- Identify best practices, tools, and techniques for G2P data sharing and storage;
- Encourage cross-fertilization of existing or novel G2P tools, data, or ideas;
- Coordinate available educational resources and/or determine best approaches for expanding cross-disciplinary training in AG2P data science/biology/engineering;
- Motivate agriculture-focused analyses of G2P from ethical, legal, social, ecological, and economic perspectives; and
- Sensors for Agricultural Genome to Phenome Research
If you choose to participate in the teaming event, then, when you register, you need to select which topic(s) you would like to discuss in the teaming sessions. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to visit any room (i.e., topic) of their choosing and can move freely between rooms. The fifth room will be decided based on the comments received in the registration process. The first four themes will be represented in both teaming sessions; however, the fifth yet-to-be-determined theme may be different and is entirely dependent on topics suggested at registration.
